About Gilbert Rohde

Gilbert Rohde (1894-1944) was an American furniture and industrial designer who made significant contributions to the field of modern furniture and decorative arts. Born on March 20, 1894, in New York City, Rohde's innovative designs and use of new materials revolutionized the furniture industry in the early 20th century.

Rohde began his career as an illustrator and graphic designer before shifting his focus to furniture design. He studied at the Art Students League of New York and later attended the Parsons School of Design, where he honed his skills in industrial design. In 1927, he joined the prestigious Herman Miller Furniture Company as their design director.
