However, his acting career took an unexpected turn when he was offered an opportunity to design furniture for a film set. Inspired by this experience, Haines decided to pursue a new path in the world of design. In 1930, he opened his own interior design firm in Los Angeles, California. His unique style, characterized by clean lines, luxurious materials, and a blend of traditional and modern elements, quickly gained attention. Haines became known for his ability to create elegant and functional spaces that perfectly suited the lifestyles of his clients. His designs often incorporated elements of Art Deco and Hollywood Regency styles, reflecting the glamour and sophistication of the era. Throughout his career, Haines worked with numerous high-profile clients, including celebrities, socialites, and business tycoons. His notable projects included the interiors of prestigious hotels, such as the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Ambassador Hotel. He also designed private residences for notable figures like Joan Crawford, Carole Lombard, and William Randolph Hearst. In addition to his success in the world of interior design, Haines continued to be involved in the film industry. He maintained close relationships with many Hollywood stars and often provided design advice for their homes and film sets. Haines' dual career as a designer and actor allowed him to seamlessly blend his passions for both art forms. This decision led to the decline of his client base, as many were uncomfortable with his open homosexuality. Despite this setback, Haines and Shields remained together until Haines' death. Billy Haines passed away on December 26, 1973, in Los Angeles, California. His contributions to the fields of furniture and interior design continue to be celebrated and his work remains influential to this day. Haines' ability to seamlessly merge his talents as an actor and designer left an indelible mark on both industries, solidifying his legacy as a true pioneer in
