About Samuel Marx

Samuel Marx (1902-1977) was an American furniture and decorative arts designer, known for his innovative and influential designs during the mid-20th century. He played a significant role in shaping the modern American interior design landscape.

Born on September 15, 1902, in Chicago, Illinois, Marx grew up in a family that had a deep appreciation for fine craftsmanship and design. His father, David Marx, owned a successful furniture and antiques business, which exposed Samuel to the world of furniture design from a young age.

Marx attended the University of Chicago, where he studied art and architecture. After completing his education, he worked briefly as an architect before realizing his true passion lay in furniture design. In 1929, he established his own
