Dunand began his artistic training at the École des Arts Industriels in Geneva, where he studied metalworking and enameling. After completing his education, he moved to Paris in 1893 to further his career and immerse himself in the vibrant artistic community of the city. In Paris, Dunand quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills in the art of lacquerwork. He mastered the traditional Japanese technique of lacquer application, known as urushi, and combined it with his own innovative designs and motifs. His lacquer pieces were characterized by their exquisite craftsmanship, intricate patterns, and rich colors. Throughout his career, Dunand collaborated with renowned artists and designers, including Jean Dunand (his cousin), Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, and Jean-Michel Frank. These collaborations allowed him to explore various styles and techniques, resulting in a diverse body of work that ranged from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. Dunand's artistic prowess extended beyond lacquerwork and furniture design. He also excelled in creating decorative objects, such as vases, bowls, and screens, which showcased his mastery of different materials, including bronze, silver, and ivory. His designs often featured organic forms, geometric patterns, and motifs inspired by nature. In addition to his artistic achievements, Dunand also gained recognition for his entrepreneurial skills. He established his own workshop in Paris, attracting a clientele of wealthy patrons, art collectors, and influential figures of the time. His creations were highly sought after and adorned the interiors of luxurious residences, grand hotels, and ocean liners. Bernard Dunand's work received international acclaim, and he exhibited his pieces in prestigious venues such as the Salon d'Automne and the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. His contributions to the decorative arts were recognized with numerous awards and honors, solidifying his status as a leading figure in the field. Tragically, Bernard Dunand's life was cut short during World War II. He passed away on June 18, 1942, in Paris, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and artistic innovation. His works
