About Josef Hoffmann

Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) was an influential Austrian architect and designer, known for his contributions to the field of furniture and decorative arts. He was a key figure in the development of the Vienna Secession movement and the Wiener Werkstätte, both of which sought to bring together art, design, and craftsmanship.

Born on December 15, 1870, in Pirnitz, Moravia (now part of the Czech Republic), Hoffmann studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. After completing his education, he became a founding member of the Vienna Secession in 1897, a group of artists and designers who aimed to break away from traditional artistic norms and establish a new, modern aesthetic.
